Canada vs Romania

Romania scored 17 points in the final 28 minutes to overcome Canada in a thrilling 2015 Rugby World Cup clash at Leicester City Stadium on Wednesday.

No. 8 Mihai Macovei went over for two late tries, while Florin Vlaicu took care of the conversions and penalties to help Romania stage a come-from-behind win over the Canucks. The 17-15 victory gave Romania the chance to finish third in Pool D and an opportunity for an automatic qualification for the 2019 Rugby World Cup if they beat Italy on Sunday.

The Romanians trailed 8-0 in half time and had succumbed to 15-0 early in the second half after Canada scored tries courtesy of wingers Van Der Merwe and Jeff Hassler. But The Oaks made an inspiring run led by captain Macovei after converting scores in the 53 rd and 74 th minute mark to get within a point.

"We said if we could stay within 14 points going into the last 20 minutes we knew we'd get the chance," Romania coach Lynn Howells said, reports CBC . "We saw that — Canada's wide game fell apart in the last 20."

Canada were down to 14 men in the last 8 minutes after flanker Jebb Sinclair was sin-binned for bringing down a rolling maul. Romania took advantage and smashed the Canucks at another scrum to earn a penalty, which Vlaicu converted from 35 metres out, putting Canada to only a second winless tournament in eight World Cup appearances. The RWC fixture between Canada and Romania was the lowest-scoring first half at this year’s tournament.

Fiji vs Uruguay

Fiji exited the 2015 Rugby World Cup in winning fashion after defeating Uruguay 47-15 at Stadium MK to finally get a win the “Pool of Death.”

Nemani Nadolo scored 17 points from five tries and two penalty tries to help the Pacific Islanders brushoff the Uruguayan team that bravely went head-to-head despite the big difference in height and weight. Uruguay also recorded their first RWC try tries since 2003.

Fiji has been planning all along an upset in the toughest pool at the quadrennial rugby tournament, but the team failed to convert performances into good RWC results against powerhouses like Australia, Wales, and England. However, their performance was put right in the game against Uruguay with a seven-try display.

Coach John McKee acknowledged the toughness of Uruguay, but admitted disappointment for not getting wins over the bigger teams in the group stage. "We have got a talented squad and we have had some huge challenges, especially around the first three games,” McKee said, reports World Rugby . “We came with high ambitions and we believed we could roll over one or two of the bigger teams, but it didn't happen so it was important to get a good win tonight."

Fiji will now fly home, while Uruguay will head to Manchester to face England and attempt their first 2015 RWC win.
