Sam Smith Says Taylor Swift Nicest Among Pop Stars, Ignores Howard Stern’s ‘Fat’ And ‘Ugly’ Comments
“Stay With Me” singer Sam Smith shared that his fellow pop stars have been difficult to get along with. However, excluded in the list of the pop stars who have been unfriendly towards him is Taylor Swift. He also recently decided to just ignore Howard Stern's mean descriptions of him: fat and ugly.
In his interview with GQ magazine, Sam Smith shared that he has high respect for Taylor Swift because she is nice to him and everyone else despite her success. This is something Sam would like to emulate. For him, he wants to be a successful pop star, but not the typical "pop star."
According to him, his fellow pop stars, aside from Taylor Swift, have not treated him nicely. "I will never act like some of the current pop stars have acted toward me," he shared to GQ without naming names. He said that other pop stars worry about the competition too much even though “there’s space for all” of them.
The “I’m Not the Only One” singer said that Taylor Swift is a cut above the rest because she is both nice and successful. Sam Smith especially likes her soulfulness, despite all the achievements she has reached. For him, Swift is a “role model” whom he has a lot of respect for. “She manages to sell a lot of records and make a lot of people happy financially, but also to keep that soulfulness, that honesty,” he said.
Perhaps just proving how mean successful people around him could be, Sam Smith recently has to deal with being called fat and ugly by radio host Howard Stern. On Sirius XM radio, during a countdown of the Billboard Hot 100 in which Smith's latest single came in at No.5, Stern claimed that he loves Sam because he’s fat and gay. He also implied that Sam Smith’s successful because he really has a good voice and not just because girls fantasise about him. Stern also said that Sam gives off a “gay” vibe. He even revealed that he initially thought Sam would not be successful beyond his first single, “I’m Not the Only One,” but he was apparently proven wrong by the success of the soulful singer’s song “Stay with Me.”
Sam Smith took to his Twitter to react to what Stern said about him, choosing to take the high road. Sam tweeted that he could not believe what he just heard. He then followed it up with a tweet that simply said, “Ignore.”
