Google has confirmed that it is staging an event on Oct 24 and the likelihood is, the LG Nexus 5 will be uncloaked with the release date to happen on the same day.

This is not entirely impossible as Google could easily push its new phone to go LIVE on the Play Store a few hours after it is unveiled. Then after 24 hours, retail partners of the tech giant and other global distributors can start displaying the freshly-minted gadget.

True, there were no clear indications that shipments have been made to various destinations but the fact is, Google has been quite successful in hiding the meaty Nexus 5 details. There were specs and features that swirl around but they are mostly based on speculations.

And this has been the case since the Nexus 4 was outed last year. Google operates in secrecy and because of that, it can spring a huge surprise anytime.

Instant rollout

However, there was a faint signal that emerged this week, with an Amazon product reviewer confidently claiming that she has an advanced unit and the cover case she purchased on the online retail store was the right fit for the phone.

The same person also revealed that details about the Nexus 5 in her possession are not sharable until Oct 25, by which time a supposed embargo will be lifted.

There is no way to verify the information but somehow it pointed to a sensible assumption that Google is planning to intro the Nexus 5 and put it out with considerable dispatch. Why not when most of the competitions are already out and enjoying a wide head start.

The iPhone 5S was snapped up in millions and the Apple cash register keeps on ringing. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S4 remains a hot commodity and to ensure that its revenue keeps pouring in, Samsung let out the Galaxy Note 3, which also promises to become a holiday bestseller.

A cash magnet

Google though seems unmindful of the Nexus 5 being a late-comer because it is bringing to store shelves an irresistible mix of high-end components put together by LG, which also assembled the Nexus 4, and affordable price tags.

Unlocked and with 16GB of internal memory, the handset will sell for $350 while the 32GB model can be had for only $400. For these asking prices, buyers get to take home the following: a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, an Adreno 330 GPU, an 8MP rear cam with optical image stabilisation, a 2300mAh battery that can be charged wirelessly and of course the candy bar KitKat 4.4.

Reports said the new Nexus is a phablet with a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display screen but according to Phone Arena, it will have a slightly slimmer profile compared to the Nexus 4. In spite of sporting a larger screen compared to the Nexus 4's 4.7-inch, the Nexus 5 screen was stretched while the bezels around it was shrunk, allowing LG to shave off some width and length from the final build.

Samsung did the same with the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3, which are not exactly bigger from the handsets they replaced.

So is Google going for a simultaneous debut and release date for the LG Nexus 5? We'll know the answer very shortly.
