Korean top tech companies Samsung and LG will expect to battle head on with their rumored smartphones Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and LG Optimus Vu 2.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is expected to hit the store shelves in a few months. However, it is not the only smartphone that will be introduced in the market by that time. Another South Korean manufacturer is reportedly planning to unveil its own Optimus Vu 2 within days along Galaxy Note 2 release.

The two devices are speculated to be introduced one day before the IFA event at Berlin, Germany. Samsung has apparently booked an event just ahead of the German trade show to announce the Galaxy Note 2. LG is also supposed to follow suit with a launch event for the Optimus Vu 2.

Screen Display

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is rumoured to have a 5.5-inch screen with a 1680 x 1050 aspect ratio. The Optimus Vu 2, on the other hand, will sport a 5-inch display with a 1024 x 768 panel.

The devices' aspect ratios will be the point of difference of the two. Galaxy Note 2's widescreen display is perfect for watching movies while the 4.3-inch screen of LG's smartphone is apt for other tasks and functions.

Processor

The LG Optimus Vu 2 is speculated to be equipped with dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, which could also imply compatibility with 4G LTE networks. Thus, this may mean that it will support 4G connectivity for faster browsing.

In contrast, the Galaxy Note 2 is rumoured to have a quad-core Exynos chipset that should offer impressive performance equivalent to or better than the Galaxy S3's international version.

Operating System

LG's device is expected to be powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich; while Samsung's handset will sport Android's latest operating system, Jelly Bean.

Release Date

The two devices should come out sometime around September or October after their launch in August.

Price

There are no prices yet for the two devices. Pricing is the key of high sales. However, Samsung Galaxy Note 2's high resolution display may convince some people to spend more for the handset.

There is no clear winner since the Korean companies are yet to reveal the full features and specifications of the devices. However, Samsung may appeal to many consumers due to the popularity of its earlier device - Samsung Galaxy S3.

Moreover, there is a growing number of Samsung devices' users in Australia due to the popularity of Android software. Consumers will have to wait and find out if LG can stand a chance in the smartphone market currently dominated by Apple and Samsung.
