Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Photo Leaked, Samsung Smartwatch Patented; New NAND Chips Can Power Faster Galaxy Models
The leaks keep on coming for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and going by the trend, this seems to be one of the most telling signs that the device will be coming out on the most rumoured date as of yet--September 4.
This time, the leak features the back of the device without the cover, revealing the battery pack of the alleged Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
The photo, source from Phone Arena, which credits WebTrek for the image, showcases the micro SIM and the microSD card slots. The battery capacity was not revealed, but judging from the Samsung Galaxy Note 2's 3100 mAh, it would be either the same or higher, being the improved iteration of the current one.
Even though a number of leaks have already appeared, including images in a factory lineup and one that is more up close, the design of the device has not yet been revealed, since most of the leaks showcase a blocky prototype--unless this will actually be the upcoming design for the device.
Samsung's Smartwatch Galaxy Gear now patented
Samsung has long been rumoured to have joined the bandwagon of wearable technology in order to compete with its biggest rival Apple. Now, as the rumoured date for the reveal of both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the smartwatch, a patent has emerged, showcasing some of the details of Samsung's own Galaxy Gear.
According to ABC News, the patent has been filed late July with the U.S. trademark and patented with the Korean Intellectual Property Office earlier this year, showing that the project has been in the drawing board for quite some time now.
"We've been preparing the watch product for so long," said Lee Young Hee, executive VP of Samsung in a previous interview quoted by ABC News.
Looking at the trademark application, ABC News reports that the Galaxy Gear is slated to offer Internet and email access, and features that allow for receiving and making calls. Also previously rumoured is the device's complementary nature to Samsung's flagship smartphone and tablet lines, much like how Apple is said to position its own smartwatch.
To match the software, the Galaxy Gear is also expected to be pre-installed with the latest Android OS. The September 4 date is still on the hot list of dates to watch for Samsung, as it will be the Samsung Unpacked event, two days before the official IFA 2013 in Berlin.
Samsung lobbies for vertically-stacked chips
The Korean company is really looking to propel its name as the most innovative device company as it now dabbles on making vertically-stacked chips for the mobile industry.
In a report by PC World, it claims that Samsung may be trying to get the upper hand in the storage department of mobile devices, as its V-NAND chips are slated to be twice as fast as regular ones, and even 10 times more durable.
Taking off from the 3D design to save space, Samsung has already created the new chips and are shipping them for qualification and testing, though according to Steve Weinger, director of NAND marketing at Samsung, it is likely that the chips will find their way to mobile devices in 2014--so don't hope for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to feature this kind of technology just yet.
Though Intel has already pioneered the technique of stacking or 3D chips, Samsung will be the first to make use of this technology in an NAND flash, as it aims to meet the needs of the smaller chip sizes in the industry.
What this can mean for the mobile industry is that, apart from Samsung's usual expandable memory option, you can easily have bigger storage capacities for future Galaxy models.
