Samsung Galaxy S4 Rumor Says Smartphone to Ditch Android Operating System?
A new rumor claimed that the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 will ditch Google's Android for another operating system.
Samsung Galaxy S4 may sport an entirely different operating system called TIZEN. TIZEN is an operating system for multiple device categories including smartphones, tablets, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) devices, smart TVs, and more. It is an open source operating system that resides within the Linux Foundation, with TSG (Intel and Samsung) being the primary decision-making body.
TIZEN provides a flexible environment for application developers, based on jQuery and jQuery Mobile. The software development kit (SDK) allows developers to use HTML5 and related web technologies to write applications that run across multiple device segments.
It was initially reported that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 will sport the rumored Androidv4.2 Key Lime Pie OS that Google is set to unveil.
Samsung have been using Android in most of its devices and Windows OS in some. Thus, there is a possibility that Samsung will develop smartphone using this operating system.
SamMobile was the first to report about the new device being confirmed with the online publication stating that the GT-I9500 could very well be the Galaxy S4 as the number '4' is apparently unlucky in South Korea.
"SamMobile just received the first model numbers of Samsung's new high-end device. The Samsung GT-I9500 and GT-I9505 (probably LTE version). We know that Samsung's first TIZEN developer device is using GT-I9500 as its model number which could mean TIZEN is close to come, or, other possibility is that Samsung changed the model number of the next-generation Galaxy S device," the SamMobile report stated.
The site also mentions that it's strange that Samsung is still making two versions of this device, as it was expected that Samsung's next flagship would be a global device, similar to the iPhone 5.
This is just a rumor but we can confirm Samsung has started doing first software tests of its new flagship model of TIZEN or Android. GT-I9500 and GT-I9505," the report concluded.
In another report, a market analyst claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S4 may be released in February.
According to Doug Freedman of RBC Capital Markets, Samsung 2013 roadmap may include releasing the successor of the famous Samsung Galaxy S4 earlier than expected because of Apple's change of plans. Apple's rumored release of iPhone 6 in early 2013 may be one of the reasons of the early launch of its main competitor.
In his note, Freedman also predicted that the Galaxy S4 could be released in February or March and publicly revealed at the 2013 Mobile Congress, which takes place in Barcelona, Spain.
Samsung did not give any comments on the rumors surrounding their upcoming smartphone.
