Scientists: Debate on climate disrupted
A number of 250 scientists have put their signatures on an open letter stating their disturbance regarding the rise in attacks on climate researchers recently, saying political action has been disrupted.
The letter was published in the journal of Science, saying that the recent attacks on climate scientists are being operated by special interests and the debate must deliver the convincing evidence of change in climate.
According to ABC Online, the scientists said it is obvious that the planet is warming up due to amplified concentrations of greenhouse gases brought on by activities of mankind.
A professor from the Australian National University, Kurt Lambeck, told ABC Online that the Federal Government cannot allow further delays anymore.
He said the negative aspects of the debate have been very ill-fated because they are one of the elements in the delay to start the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
He added that there will be another election cycle in another three years time so there won't be any action, and it does no good for anybody.
Professor Lambeck who is a member of the US National Academy of Science says further delays on action should not be an alternative, but a must. It is a call for rational debate to spill out the facts, not to have the discussion repelled by intense views that are not really based on science.
"The letter calls on policymakers and the public to urgently address the causes of climate change."
