Selena Gomez Back to Making a Disney Flick?
After all the sexy and raunchy roles, it appears as if Selena Gomez is ready to head back to her innocent role. A movie for Selena's beloved television series of which she had starred in, "Wizards of Waverly Place" is set for a big screen debut. Disney fans will definitely be glad to hear it has stuck to the original series but with a whole lot of surprises in store.
Selena Gomez will not be only starring in the film but sources have confirmed that the 20-year old will be part of the production team. Joining Selena Gomez in the 2013 film release of "Wizards of Waverly Place" film are Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, Jake Austin, Gregg Sulkin and David DeLuise all of whom shall be reprising their original roles.
The plot is as follows: "The storyline takes the Russo family and friends to Tuscany, Italy, to meet their long lost relatives but when Alex (Gomez) tries to prove she's more than a seemingly carefree young Wizard, she inadvertently conjures a spell that creates a Good Alex and an Evil Alex. When Evil Alex gets roped into a foreboding plan to take over the world, Good Alex must find a way to save her family and humankind, which leads to a monumental battle between the two versions of herself - all atop the Tower of Pisa."
The special was written by Ben Montanio, Dan Berendsen and Vince Cheung. Montanio, Dan Cross, Dan Hodge and Cheung will also be joining Selena Gomez as executive producers of the film. The film will be directed by Victor Gonzales.
Given the series won the award for Best Children's Program at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, it is definitely great timing for Disney to create a film out of the beloved series. For one, the film will showcase Selena's innocent and hilarious role which she has been cowering away from given her latest film projects which include, "Spring Breakers" and "While I'm Dead... Feed the Dogs."
Hopefully, the film still has enough power to win over fans that have grown up with the series. The producers of "Hannah Montana" did the exact same move which garnered it whopping millions at the box office. "Wizards of Waverly Place" can only hope to do the same.
