SimCity Launch Date for Mac with Cross-Platform Features & Cheetah Speed Returns
It's another round of SimCity, but this time, it will be for Mac users, as the Mac version launches on June 11 as per Electronic Arts' announcement.
But the better deal is that you find a PC-owner friend who already has his or her hands on the PC version of SimCity, as he can get the Mac version for free. Or better yet, if you have a friend with a PC, and you both don't have a copy, you only have to buy either a Mac or a PC version, and you'll get two copies--one Mac and one PC version.
How's that for a great deal? Perhaps this is EA's way of appeasing for the disastrous launch last month and a potential Hail Mary pass that it doesn't happen this time around.
For those who want to pre-order, EuroGamer reports that you can do so from Origin starting April 10. The game will be a download-only from Origin.
Cross-platform is also supported between PC and Mac, so you can play in the same server despite differing versions, and there's no problem in terms of playing a PC-created version with a Mac version of the game.
To fully enjoy the SimCity experience on the Mac, you need the LION OSX 10.75 and a Core 2 processor.
Apple Insider adds that, despite the launch disaster, SimCity has already sold three million units since the PC launch. Considering the number of Mac users, SimCity may be looking at another influx of pre-orders and downloads for the game.
Cheetah returns, and a possible 2.0 Update?
When the Cheetah Speed was removed to give way to server functions, many people had to deal with the fact that you can no longer accelerate time. However, alongside the news of the release of the Mac version of SimCity, Forbes reports that Maxis has now restored the Cheetah Speed for all servers.
In a Facebook comment, Maxis said, "Yes, it's true--we've recently brought back Cheetah Speed. We're also working on Update 2.0, so stay tuned for more info."
The 2.0 Update may be gearing to fix a number of bugs, lags, and traffic, but there has been no announcement on the release date of the update.
