'The Simpsons' season 28 spoilers: Amy Schumer to play Mrs Burns
In its 27 years in the business, “The Simpsons” has employed the help of other comedians or actors in order to make the episodes a little more special than the others. And for the show’s 28th season premiere, which will show on the evening of Sept. 25 in the US, Amy Schumer will take on the role of Mrs Burns.
Schumer, who will play the mother of the eccentric billionare, will appear only in flashbacks. Meanwhile, the audience will learn something new about the tycoon. As executive Al Jean explained to Entertainment Weekly, it is a piece of his past that led to Burns being Burns.
“We learn something that might have made him the man he is,” Jean said. “We discover he was the equivalent of an Internet fail sensation in, like, 1917.”
Burns, voice acted by Harry Shearer, will try to make up for a failure in his past by staging a musical at the Springfield Bowl.
Schumer also has a role in the premiere episodes of “Bob’s Burger” and “Family Guy.”
Slash Film was also able to speak to Jean, who told the publication a few things to expect from this year's “The Simpsons."
"Well, this year the Halloween show is actually coincidentally and will be celebrated as the 600 episode,” Jean revealed. He then went on to confirm that the beginning of the episode will illustrate some of the show’s greatest villains trying to kill Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
In another episode, Burns will control the water supply in a dystopian version of Spring Field, where different characters are fighting to the death for it. Yet another episode will try to explain exactly why and when Homer started to eat his feelings.
“It turns into a little bit of the movie ‘Fitzcarraldo,’” Jean explained. “Where a bunch of fat guys are trying to push a hot dog truck over a hill.” Jean also shared that the show will likely feature another elections episode.
"The Simpsons" season 28 will premiere at 8 p.m. on Sept. 25 on US network Fox.
