Homer and Marge Simpson have addressed rumours that they are separating. In a new ad video released on Friday, the fictional “The Simpsons” characters took time to belie the persistent reports about the end of their decades-old marriage.

Earlier this month, the U.S. animated series’ fans read the devastating news that Homer and Marge would be splitting after 27 seasons. It’s not like the report came from an unfounded source as well. It came straight from executive producer Al Jean himself.

In an interview with Variety, Jean revealed what the upcoming 27th season will entail. According to him, Homer will discover he has narcolepsy during the season premiere, and this will put a strain on their marriage. While he and Marge are legally separated, he will fall in love with a pharmacist, voiced by Lena Dunham. Jean also promised there will be cameos from other “Girls” stars.

It is difficult to determine how long Homer and Marge have been married as the show’s characters don’t age. But the two have been married and have been raising their three children together for years when the show premiered in 1989. With them separating, it understandably upsets the show’s viewers.

Fear not, though. Animated TV’s power couple are still together and will not be splitting up any time soon. In the short video released on Friday, Homer and Marge sit under a “Together Forever” banner as they explain how the “baseless” rumour started (it apparently started on CNN before the “real news” caught up). They assure viewers that their marriage is still strong, in spite of Homer’s many shortcomings.

“Marjorie and I are as solid as a rock,” Homer declared, referring to Marge’s real name. Their three kids — Bart, Lisa and Maggie — also made an appearance in the short video.

Apart from Homer and Marge’s separation, Jean also revealed Spider Pig will be returning in the show. Sideshow Bob, who has been plotting to kill Bart for so long, will finally “do something he’s wanted to do for 25 years.” He previously told Entertainment Weekly that Bob will be able to murder the 10-year-old main star in a Halloween episode.

As for another “Simpsons” movie, there will be none. Although “The Simpsons Movie” was a box office success in 2007, Jean said he would rather end the show before doing another film. “The movie was such a time-intensive operation,” he reason, “it pulled a lot away from the show.”
