With some saying that alcohol is only empty calories, is there any truth to cutting weight by cutting down the drinks?
The guidette, who was infamous for downing drinks and getting tipsy, is now down to 102 pounds and this is all thanks to exercise and a firm decision to reducing drinking, E! Online reported. With alcohol being a major part of the program, how big is the part of cutting down dinks in losing the weight?
As it turns out, empty calories aptly describes alcoholic drinks as different experts say that the easiest way to lose weight is to reduce drinking them. This is because alcoholic beverages contain an average of between 90 and 160 calories per glass, according to LiveStrong.com.
Totaling it all up, when a person drinks regularly a week, he or she is actually drinking down 630 to 1,120 calories. And since it takes only 3,500 calories to gain a pound, it's easy to see how reducing drinks can reduce weight.
In fact, according to Diet-Blog.com, aside from the calories and giving someone the unwanted pounds, drinking alcohol can actually increase a person's appetite and reduce will power - a lethal combination when it comes those counting calories.
And speaking of counting calories, pure alcohol contains about 7 calories per gram, but not only that, carbohydrates, which is known to add pounds, are also present in alcoholic drinks. For instance, regular beer could have as much as 13 grams of carbs; light beer with 4.5 grams; and red wine and white wine with 1.75 grams and 1 gram, respectively.
Like every life changing decisions in life, a person should take it one step at a time. And when it comes to limiting one's drinking consumption, it is advised to consider cutting it down to one or two days a week, with only one or two drinks a day.
