Solid Galaxy S5 Metal Case Will Use the Same iPhone 6 Chassis Technology on 2014 Release Date?
Rumours about the Galaxy S5 continue to swirl, the latest of which touches on the handset's supposedly more durable build on its 2014 release date.
Touted as the main foe for the phablet-size iPhone 6, the GS5 is said to shed the plastic legacy of its predecessors, including the immediate model that it will replace - the Galaxy S4. That means Sammy fans can expect the upcoming gadget to sport a dominantly metallic body.
In a report by Gotta Be Mobile, it is suggested that Samsung is looking into the possibility of wrapping the GS5 in metal, with aluminium or magnesium as the likely materials to be used as the body covering.
Citing reports from Taiwan's Taipei Times, GBM revealed that Samsung is negotiating a possible deal with Catcher Technology, which is currently tasked by Apple to produce the metal frames that are used for the MacBook Air.
While Catcher is not yet confirmed as part of the iPhone 6 supply chain (the handset itself remains a speculation), the company is no stranger to smartphone manufacturing. Catcher was tapped by HTC to lend its expertise for its 2013 flagship project, which led to the HTC One rollout earlier this year.
The HTC One, immediately after its debut, easily won raves from tech experts, with some reviewers branding it as the best smartphone running in Android, highlighting the device's solid build and incredible features.
Now it seems possible that the same technology will soon be found on the GS5, which this early is gaining attention as Samsung had hinted in the past weeks that the planning stage for its 2014 Hero phone is already underway.
For one, Jong-kyun Shin, one of Samsung's CEO, has largely confirmed that his company's next smartphone offering will be powered by a 64-bit processing chip, which obviously in reaction to the dual-core 64-bit A7 CPU that Apple has deployed with the iPhone 5S this September.
Additionally, the GS4 will allegedly boast of a 16MP main shooter and complemented by a powerful camera application with optical image stabilisation as among its upscale features.
Recent reports and published concepts also visualised the device as having a wraparound and flexible screen that stretches to 5.3-inch with added durability features like waterproofing and shockproofing.
To date, most of the Galaxy S5 renders paint the Android phone as the direct iPhone 6 rival, which is understandable as release dates of the two smartphones are generally expected to happen in the first half of 2014.
