Known for his role as Otto Delaney in “Sons of Anarchy” and hitman Margos Dezerian in “The Shield,” Kurt Sutter has gone a long way from being a staff writer in the FX crime drama in 2002 and ended being a producer of the same show. Now after wrapping up the seventh season of his biker drama series “Sons of Anarchy,” Sutter gearing up for his medieval drama “The Bastard Executioner” in Wales.

“His rise to power though has been a quiet one, to the extent to which many “Sons of Anarchy” fans didn’t even realize that he himself was in the show as incarcerated club member Otto Delaney,” according to Cheat Sheet. “But that doesn’t change what he’s done for both the antihero crime drama as well as the entire FX network.”

Specializing in stories in the other side of the law, Sutter’s bread and butter is to make fans root to the show’s antihero. Like “The Shield’s” crooked cop Vic Mackey and SOA’s Jax Teller, fans of the show often find themselves connected to Sutter’s antihero.

By the end of season seven of “The Shield,” Sutter was hailed as the series’ second most prolific writer after Shawn Ryan for having written or co-written 18 episodes in total. After wrapping up his first series in 2008, the 54-year-old series creator started SOA in autumn of the same year and ended the show in December 2014.

Now the he finished scouting for his new cast for “The Bastard Executioner” (#TBX), the busy showrunner is set to begin the show’s production this month. SOA executive producer Paris Barclay is set to join Sutter as he will direct and executive produce the pilot episode.

The medieval drama show follows the story of a warrior knight in King Edward I’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war. After vowing not to pick his sword again, violence found him again that he was forced to pick up the deadliest sword of all.

The long-haired director will be joined by his better half, Katey Sagal (“Sons of Anarchy”), for the second time around. Sagal will star as Annora of the Alders, while Sutter will play The Dark Mute, Annora’s mate and guardian.
