‘Sons of Anarchy’ spinoff ‘Mayans MC’ update: Sarah Bolger’s Emily dwells in opulence, distinctly different from Gemma Teller
Kurt Sutter’s “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff pilot, “Mayans MC,” has confirmed “Into the Badlands” actress Sarah Bolger. She has been confirmed as one of the leads opposite JD Pardo, who is playing Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes.
According to Deadline, “Mayans MC” will focus on the struggles of Reyes after Jax Teller’s (Charlie Hunnam) death at the end of “Sons of Anarchy’s” seven-season run in 2014. Reyes is a prospect in the “Mayans MC” charter on the California/Mexico border. Bolger will play Emily, Reyes’ childhood sweetheart. The spinoff has been co-created by Sutter and Elgin James. Sutter is directing and executive producing the pilot episode. James is co-executive producer for Fox 21 TV Studios and FX Prods.
According to Cinema Blend, Bolger’s Emily is distinctly different from “Sons of Anarchy” actress Katey Sagal, who played Gemma Teller. Their personalities are totally different. When Reyes gets separated from her due to cartel violence, Emily does not rid her personality with violence, at least not in public. Instead, she opted for opulence, diamonds and a mansion on the hill. The “Sons of Anarchy” universe was never meant for pageant queens and red carpet dresses. Hence, it will be interesting to see “Mayans MC” bring that element.
More female casting is expected soon. The casting kicked off with Edward James Olmos signing in as Felipe, Reyes’ one time gangbanger. John Ortiz has been confirmed as “Mayans MC” President and Richard Cabral as a full-time patch member. “ Shades Of Blue” actor Antonio Jaramillo is stepping in to take on the responsibility of being the Vice President to the President. He will play Michael ‘Riz’ Ariza. He was initially the leader of the Mexican MC, until his crew was patched in by the Mayans.
Shooting for the “Mayans MC” pilot is set to begin in March. “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff, “Mayans MC,” will likely air on FX though no release date has been mentioned yet. However, fans believe that a big reveal is coming in March itself. Marcus Alvarez’s trusted friend Esai ‘Taino’ Osorio will be taking care of business near the border. He is also Alvarez’s cousin. Played by John Ortiz, Osorio is the President of the Santo Padre charter. Cabrak is playing Johnny 'El Coco' Cruz, the wild card in the group.
Cruz shot a cigar out of his commanding officer’s mouth, for which, he was kicked out of military. Interestingly, he shot the cigar from half a mile away and was completely stoned, writes Comic Book. Clayton Cardenas is playing Angel Reyes, an important member of the family.
