Sony PS4 Overtakes Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT)’s Xbox One with debut of New Console
Playstation 4 will be unveiled in November, but rival Microsoft has cut production to 21 countries
With the Gamescom 2013 slated to debut Sony Corporation's new PlayStation4 console, the company will also announce changes in price, hardware revamps and of course a couple of digs at software giant, Microsoft.
"Our goals for PS4 are clear, ambitious and unwavering. We set out to build the most powerful gaming platform with a deeply held, consistent focus on you the gamer," said president of Sony Computer Entertainment, Andrew House. He was speaking at a press conference about the release of playstation 4..
House added, "While others have shifted their message and changed their story we are consistent in maintaining policy and a model that is fair and in tune with consumer desires,"
The touted PS4, which competes with Microsoft's Xbox will unveil in Canada and in the United States on November 15, just in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, when game consoles experience their biggest sales as holiday gifts. The price tag in North America will be $440 Australian dollars.
"We knew that performance would be critical, so we set our target at ten times the power of previous consoles, and the result is a hardware that makes possible the stunning graphics and rich interactive worlds of the games you're seeing today," House said, adding that, "PlayStation 4 is the world's most powerful game console."
In Europe, Sony Corporation's release date for Playstation 4 in Europe is November 29 with a price tag of €399 and in Britain Sony's new product will cost £349. Sony's Playstation console is also slated for sale in ten South American countries. The release date will be is expected to be announced later. Altogether, the number of countries carrying Sony's Playstation 4 will amount to 32.
That figure compares to just 13 from Microsoft, offering the Xbox game console.
Microsoft said that it will slash the number of new Xbox 1 released to just a worldwide count of 21. To appease the disappointed crowd who will not be able to play a new console, Microsoft has announced they will give away a free game.
"While we wish we could launch Xbox One simultaneously in these markets, there are many factors that determine the timing of specific market launches," the management at Xbox wrote in a company blog post, reports the register.co.uk.
Fortunately, Australia is on the list of 21 countries that will get to see the xbox one before Christmas and so is the United States and Canada.
"Our priority is ensuring our customers get the best Xbox One experience the first day it is available. To do that, and in order to meet demand, we have adjusted the number of markets that will receive Xbox One in November to 13 markets, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand, in November, "said the leadership at Microsoft's Xbox.
Some video gamers will have to wait until 2014 to see Microsoft's new xbox one console.
The statement added, "We remain committed to launching Xbox One in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, as soon as possible in 2014."
Microsoft is at a price disadvantage for its new console Xbox one which costs $100 more than Sony's playstation 4.
