Sony launched several new devices at the IFA conference in Berlin Wednesday, including an updated Reader device and two new tablets.

Sony's first tablets, the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P, which both run on the Android OS and have Nvidia Tegra 2 processors, are aimed at dominating the tablet market in Japan. The company hopes the two tablets will be enough to overcome the iPad lead in its home turf.

The Sony Tablet S is Wi-Fi capable and has a 1280x800 screen and a design that makes the user feel like they're holding back a magazine. Sony will launch the tablet on September 17 at $499 a unit for the 16Gb model and $599 for the 32Gb model.

Sony's other tablet; the Tablet P is a dual screen Android tablet that has two 5.5 inch 1024 by 480 screen resolution. It has a full-size SD card slot and a MicroUSB input slot. The Tablet P is expected to hit retail stores in November this year.

Japan's tablet market is expected to grow to 2 million units this fiscal year and expand to more than 3.2 million next year. Apple's iPad has majority of the market share with about 85 percent of the market though Sony expects the Android-based tablets to gain ground.

The new device sports a 6-inch touch screen and has Wi-Fi capability and 2Gb of internal storage. The Sony Reader Wi-Fi will hit stores in October for $149 a unit.
