South African Doctors Gets A Shock As They Help Deliver A Baby With Unusual '12' Birthmark On The Forehead
A South African dermatologist and doctor were left surprised when they found that a baby has a birthmark that clearly read perfect number “12” in the middle of his forehead. Hanru van Niekerk was born on Nov 11 2014, however, his birthmark made people believe that he has arrived a day earlier.
On his arrival, the family of the little boy from the South African city of Johannesburg did not notice the birthmark at first until one of his relatives pointed it out.
“My youngest daughter was the first one to see it and she said there is a 1 and a 2 on his forehead. We did not worry about it, his doctor said it will fade as he gets older,” revealed Niekerk's 70-year-old great-grandmother Catherine Jooste, reported The Inquisitr.
According to dermatologist Patrice Hyde, babies can develop completely harmless birthmark either shortly after the birth or even before it, when the baby is in the womb.
“Hemangiomas are a bunch of tiny blood vessels that grow in a specific area on the skin — that’s why they usually look red or purple. Blood vessels are tiny tubes that carry blood through the body. No one knows what causes blood vessels to group together, but it’s good to know that most birthmarks aren’t a sign of any kind of illness and usually don’t hurt at all,” said Hyde, reported The Mirror.
She further explained that strange or unusual birthmarks, like the one that baby Niekerk has, fade away over a period of time as the infant grows up to become a toddler. In addition, there are other techniques, including laser and use of corticosteroids, by which these birthmarks can be hidden.
So far, the family of the infant has happily accepted the strange birthmark of their son, stating that it makes him all the more special.
