Baby Removed From Pregnant Colorado Woman’s Womb Is Dead
Despite the skill of Dynel Lane in removing the baby from the womb of a 26-year-old seven-month pregnant woman who came to her house in response to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes, the pre-term infant still died. Lane is a nursing aide, although her license is expired.
Doctors who examined and treated the victim, identified only as Michelle, noted in their report that “the person who did the incision would have to have researched the subject of Cesarean Births in books or online to achieve the level of accuracy.” Michelle and her attacker, Lane, were both in the same hospital, and Lane claimed she gave birth to the dead infant but did not agree to be examined vaginally.
Washington Post reports that when Michelle went to Lane’s house, the latter attacked and stabbed her. Then Lane slit her tummy to get the foetus. The victim was left on the basement bleeding, but she managed to call 911 to seek help.
Meanwhile, Lane’s husband arrived home 15 minutes before Michelle made the call and as he was about to go down to the basement where the victim was, Turner showed up bloodied and claimed she had a miscarriage, so they rushed to the same hospital where Michelle was being treated.
Lane’s desire to have a baby stems from her losing a child when her 19-month-old son drowned in a fish pond in July 2002, according to the two daughters of Lane who were 5 and 3 when the tragedy happened.
It seems that Lane had planned to steal someone else’s infant and claim the baby as her own because she had previously shown to her daughters photos of a December 2014 ultrasound that said she was pregnant with a boy. However, one of her daughters told investigators she could not tell her mum was carrying a child because she was very slim.
Lane will be charged with attempted first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death next week. She is held on a $2 million bond and detained at the Boulder County Jail.
However, there is a legal question if murder charges could be filed because under Colorado law, to file murder charges, it must be established that the foetus lived as a child outside the body of the mother for a period of time, said Boulder County District Attorney Stanley Garrett. Vital to that premise is the autopsy on the foetus to be done on Friday.
