'Star Wars: Episode 8': Deliberately deleted Knights of Ren back-story for the sequel
A scene teasing the back-story of Knights of Ren was “deliberately” deleted from “The Force Awakens,” so that it can be featured in “Star Wars: Episode 8.” This indicates the upcoming movie could be flashback heavy with stories about Luke Skywalker, Ben Solo, Rey, Snoke and the Knights of Ren.
[Spoiler alert]
“The Force Awakens” introduced a lot of new characters with precious little about their background. According to a report by Mike Zeroh, the Blu-Ray Collector’s Edition of the film has a commentary by J.J. Abrams, in which he explains why a scene was deliberately deleted.
The scene was a part of Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) Force vision of the rainy night. The Knights of Ren were a brief part of this scene, but according to Abrams there was more to this scene.
The vision sequence mostly focused on Rey. Perhaps having too many storylines inserted in the flashback would have been confusing for the fans. While “The Force Awakens” focused on Ridley’s character and the other heroes, “Star Wars: Episode 8” may shed more light on the villains.
Abrams reportedly revealed that the back-story of the Knights of Ren has already been planned. The fans may get to learn more about them and their origins in the next film. Mike believes that scene could be shown through another Force vision of Rey while she trains under Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
Connected to the Knights of Ren back-story is Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). “The Force Awakens” did not answer the question of how Ben Solo joined the Dark Side and how Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) was able to win him over. There is also the question of why Luke vanished all of a sudden after losing his Padawans.
With so many questions left unanswered, “Star Wars: Episode 8” is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2017. There could be some hints about some of the back-stories, in the novels that will be released before the premiere of the movie.
