'Star Wars: Episode 8': Dress rehearsal to begin soon; expect more official titbits
As the construction at a “Star Wars: Episode 8” nears completion, the crew is set to begin dress rehearsals soon. Pictures and videos from Dubrovnik have been leaking online, which show how the crew is preparing a set for the movie.
The production crew is now putting “final touches” to the set in Dubrovnik, The Dubrovnik Times reports. The main street of the city is being used to film a scene and the entrances of the shops on the street have been altered to give it a futuristic look.
Dress rehearsals are set to take place at this location on March 9. The actual filming of the scenes will reportedly begin by March 11. It is still not clear which of the cast members will be filming their scene at this location. There are also no details available about the planet Dubrovnik is standing in for.
Rumours suggest that Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Benicio Del Toro will be filming their scenes at this location, however, the actors have so far not been spotted near the set of “Star Wars: Episode 8.” As previously reported, Daisy Ridley (Rey) will not be filming her scenes in Dubrovnik at the moment.
Fans can expect more official titbits from the production set of the movie, Ridley told Entertainment Tonight. When asked whether the new director Rian Johnson is just as secretive as J.J. Abrams, Ridley said that the director “wants to be a bit cheekier with the little titbits of information that are going out. Which is fine.”
The actress said that a similar approach of sharing little bits of information has worked well for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The approach, the actress felt, helped keep the fans interested. Ridley said that even though it’s a new director filming the movie, the atmosphere is still “very lovely,” “warm” and “friendly” on “Star Wars: Episode 8” set. Perhaps one difference between the two directors is that Johnson is little more “freer,” as he allowed some of the cast members share pictures of their chairs from the set, according to Ridley.
