'Star Wars: Episode 8' production update: Filming nearly complete; Director shares picture of Jedi robe
The production of “Star Wars: Episode 8” is nearly complete, director Rian Johnson announced online. The director also shared a picture of a Jedi robe that appears to be of Luke Skywalker.
Johnson has been sharing information about the filming of his movie from time to time online. He has once again taken to Tumblr to announce that the production of the movie is now “in the home stretch.” He shared a picture of a Jedi robe, which may belong to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). The set appears to depict the fictitious planet Ahch-To.
The director had shared some pictures from the set in April and announced that he has reached the halfway point in filming the movie. He had shared a picture of an X-Wing fighter plane that belongs to the Resistance forces, and also a picture from inside a control station belonging to the First Order.
Another picture he shared in April showed Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata) filming her scene for “Star Wars: Episode 8.” Maz is a CGI character that is brought to life with the help of motion capture technology. Nyong’o has to wear a special suit and device over her head to capture her movements and facial expressions for the character.
Johnson has not shared any pictures of the main cast members Hamill, Daisy Ridley (Rey) and John Boyega (Finn). As previously reported, Ridley, Hamill and some of the other crew members celebrated in a bar after filming wrapped in Ireland last month.
“Star Wars: Episode 8” is slated to be released on Dec. 17, 2017. With the production of the movie now nearing completion, it will soon go into the post production phase. The producers will then work on releasing the first trailer of the movie. Some of the pictures from the set have already leaked online, and more such leaks can be expected before the film is released.
