'Star Wars: Episode 8' theory: Fate of Kylo Ren's lightsaber; Another nostalgic scene
A new theory about Kylo Ren’s lighsaber in “Star Wars: Episode 8” has surfaced online. The fate of the device was not clear after the final duel in “The Force Awakens.” It has also been suggested that an action sequence in the sequel will be nostalgic.
[Spoiler alert]
In the duel against Rey (Daisy Ridley) in “The Force Awakens” Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) got injured, and also damaged his lightsaber. In a new video posted on YouTube, Mike Zeroh looks at what happened to the weapon. He asked Lucasfilm Story Group Member Pablo Hidalgo or an answer, but the executive suggested the fans wait and watch the movie to find out.
Mike then dives into his theory about what we may see in the upcoming film. He suggests that there are two possibilities; either Kylo Ren gets a new lightsaber or there will be a scene of him fixing it himself. Even if it is a new one, Mike suggests that it will still be a crossguard lightsaber.
One possible consequence of the damage to the liightsaber is that it could be a lot more stable now in “Star Wars: Episode 8.” Mike believes the fans will get to see how the weapon becomes more stable in a scene in which Kylo Ren will repair it. He could also get a new Kyber crystal for this scene.
Another big possibility, according to the theory, is Kylo Ren getting Darth Vader’s lightsaber at the end of his training from Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). If this happens, there is every chance the Sith Lord’s weapon will clash against Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber once again.
The last time the two lightsabers clashed it was in “Empire Strikes Back.” The blue lighsaber was found in “The Force awakens,” which means a nostalgic clash is a real possibility in the sequel. The franchise has slowly been building the back story of Darth Vader, by revealing his castle in “Rogue One,” and introducing more elements in the new canon novels, and the animation series.
Given Kylo Ren’s obsession with Darth Vader, it is possible he will get some of the Sith Lord’s possessions in “Star Wars: Episode 8.” Fans will have to wait till the movie is released to find out if this theory turns out to be true. The film is slated to be released on Dec. 15 in Australia.
