'Star Wars: Episode 9': JJ Abrams' return is 'epic,' says Domhnall Gleeson
Filming of “Star Wars: Episode 9” is underway with JJ Abrams at the helm. In a recent interview, cast member Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux) reacted to the director’s return. The upcoming film is the last in the new trilogy, and it is expected to wrap up the story with a possible tease on what’s in store for the future.
In an interview with Variety at the premiere of his new film “The Little Stranger,” Gleeson also talked about the “Star Wars” film he is currently filming. According to a Twitter post by Brent Lang, the senior film and media editor at Variety, Gleeson said that Abrams’ return is “epic.”
The upcoming film will be important for the future of the franchise. The Rian Johnson film “The Last Jedi” mostly got mixed reactions from the fans, following which some of the other projects like the Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film got shelved.
Colin Trevorrow was initially supposed to helm “Star Wars: Episode 9.” Trevorrow had to eventually leave the project after creative disagreements with Disney executives. Later, Abrams was brought back as the director.
Abrams has faced his shares of doubt and scepticism from the fans too. There was a lot of concern when he was selected to helm “The Force Awakens,” especially by the fans who didn’t like his “Star Trek” reboot movies. Abrams however, was able to deliver one of the biggest movies at the box office, and the fans loved his work too. It remains to be seen if he will be able to work his magic and charm the fans with the next movie.
“Star Wars: Episode 9” is set to be released on Dec. 20, 2019 in the US. The producers are yet to announce the title of the film and an exact release date for Australia.
