‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Luke Skywalker identity spoiler: Mark Hamill teases Jedi Master in the 'Dark Side'
Luke Skywalker’s identity in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has always been a mystery. It gets more mysterious when he didn’t show up at any of the trailers or TV spots released for the film. He was also not in the official movie poster. The only consolation knowing he is in the movie is seeing Mark Hamill’s name among the casts. There have been rumours that the Jedi Master has not been featured so far because his mere presence alone is already a spoiler. It’s believed he has turned to the Dark Side.
Cinema Blend speculates Luke Skywalker may be a villain in the film because Hamill had pitched the idea himself during a 2005 episode of “Dinner for Five” with host Kevin Smith. The discussion, captured in the video below, has reportedly been making the rounds now that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is nearing its Dec. 18 release and yet fans still have no idea about the Jedi Master’s identity.
In the video, Hamill talks about how he had pitched the evil Luke Skywalker to “Star Wars” creator George Lucas. Coincidentally, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams is also in on the discussion.

“As an actor that would be more fun to play. I just thought that’s the way it was going from when we finished [Empire]. I figured that’s what will be the pivotal moment. I’ll have to come back, but it will be I have Han Solo in my crosshairs and I’ll be about to kill him or about to kill the Princess or about to kill somebody that we care about,” Hamill is heard saying in the video.
According to Cinema Blend, it’s still a little hypothetical to consider that Luke Skywalker has turned to the Dark Side in the film. But then Abrams was reportedly also involved in making the script for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” When Hamill brought up the idea of the Jedi Master as a villain the director’s face certainly lit up.
Luke Skywalker has reportedly suffered a great deal of physical change since the events of “Return of the Jedi.” It’s believed the Jedi Master in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is wiser but crazed.
