[Minor spoiler alert]
According to a tweet by The Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit, sources have revealed that the Han Solo spin-off movie will explain how the smuggler got the Millennium Falcon. In the original trilogy, it was revealed that he won the ship from Lando Calrissian in a game of Sabacc.
Sabacc is a card game that is played throughout the fictitious galaxy. The main goal of the players is to win the pot by collecting a winning hand. The game is highly unpredictable and can be highly profitable for the winner. Many smugglers and pilots bet high in this game, and many ships have exchanged hands over this game.
Alden Ehrenreich has been cast to play the role of Han Solo in the spin-off movie. The actor has been a part of many Hollywood projects including the most recent “Hail, Cesar!” Some of his other projects are “Blue Jasmine,” “Stoker” and Beautiful Creatures.”
The only other casting announcement for the movie is of Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian. In the casting announcement, Lucasfilm teased that the movie will show the character at a time when he was a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld.
The movie will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. In the casting announcement the two directors said that they are “lucky” to have Glover cast as Lando, and pointed out that the actor has some big shoes and an even “bigger cape” to fill. They also jokingly apologised to the actor for “ruining Comic-Con” for him forever.
The “Star Wars” Han Solo spin-off movie is set to be released on May 25, 2018 in the US. The producers are yet to announce a release date for Australia.
