'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' spoilers: Name of 'Casino planet' and details about ‘slicer’ character
After seeing the production set of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in Dubrovnik it was clear that the franchise was introducing a new planet. The new location was dubbed “Casino planet” at that time, largely due to the fancy neon lights of the doors and windows of the set. Now, a new report reveals the name of the planet, and there are also details available about a new slicer character. The following article contains spoilers.
Sources familiar with the developments of the film have revealed to Making Star Wars the name of the Casino planet as Canto Bight. The report concedes that this could be a code name, but adds that a code name should be a generic term for the location like Vegas. But, this name sounds like it is from the Galaxy far far away.
Introducing new planets is a tradition of the franchise, with each new film taking the fans to an exotic new place. The report suggests that a medieval setting with neon lights should be exciting to see and this is something the viewers will remember for a long time.
Meanwhile, details about a new character in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” have surfaced online. According to a report by Making Star Wars, Justin Theroux will be playing the role of an “expert slicer” in the film. The character is apparently a part of the Casino planet scenes.
The costume of the slicer character is said to be similar to the white tuxedo Harrison Ford wears in “Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom,” but with a “Star Wars” twist. The character has a white jacket over a black suit, and his sharp dressing sense is compared to that of James Bond.
The interior shots of this Casino planet were filmed in Pinewood Studios. There was reportedly an explosion during the filming of these scenes, and the report suggests that Theroux’s slicer character may have something to do with that explosion in the film. It is still not clear if this character is villain or a hero.
The report suggests that Theroux’s character looks like a financer. However, this identity may be a cover, like how James Bond introduces himself as a banker at the party in “Tomorrow Never Dies.”
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is slated to be released on Dec. 15 in Australia. Details about the new planet and new characters may be revealed during the Celebrations event that is set to take place in Orlando next week. The first trailer is also expected to be released during this event.
