On Monday night, Lucasfilm announced that the first six "Star Wars" films will be made available digitally on Friday, April 10. The movie collection comes with a number of special features included with each film. The move comes ahead of the December release of J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

The extra features are broken down into two categories: "Discoveries From Inside" and "Star Wars: Conversations." The former takes fans on a trip behind the scenes and the latter talks with some of the most important people in the development on the franchise. (Watch the preview of the digital release below.)

“Since the debut of the first film nearly 40 years ago, "Star Wars" has become a worldwide phenomenon with legions of fans from every generation,” said Alan Bergman, President of Walt Disney Studios, in a statement. He said that it was only fitting for audiences of the franchise to get a look at the many "fascinating behind-the-scenes stories" on digital HD.

“We’re thrilled that fans will be able to enjoy the "Star Wars" Saga on their digital devices wherever they go,” commented Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. The executive also added that the bonus materials delves into the saga's rich history and includes conversations of the "masters" who brought "Star Wars" to life.

The films will be available on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes as well as other major digital distributors. Fans can watch the preview of the videos on the official "Star Wars" channel on Youtube.

Amongst the bonus materials packaged around the films are never seen before deleted scenes from all the features. The first six "Star Wars" episodes will be available for purchase as a complete digital movie collection and individually.

The new "Star Wars" film will see Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford returning to the classic roles of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo from the original Star Wars trilogy. They will be joined by Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Max von Sydow, John Boyega, Andy Serkis, Daisy Ridley and Pip Andersen.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18. Disney plans to release a new trilogy of "Star Wars" films between now and 2019, with spin-off movie "Rogue One" also due to debut in 2016.
