Stephen Curry knows Warriors’ ‘identity’ doesn’t change even without Kevin Durant
Warriors guard confident even with shorthanded lineup
Stephen Curry talked about the challenges of playing without superstar teammate Kevin Durant. The Golden State Warriors superstar admitted that the team has to adjust without “KD” but stated that it is still the same team that got to two straight NBA Finals.
Curry, just one of the members of the fabled Warriors’ “Super Team,” said in a recent interview that the team is confident with the current system of Golden State. Curry added that finishing strong the rest of the regular season is important so they can clinch that top seed in the 2017 NBA Playoffs.
“It’s different because there’s different combinations on the floor, different combinations of guys that coach can throw out there in KD’s absence. But, you know, our identity as a team doesn’t change,” Curry shared to Dime Mag.
“And our core guys that are out there for significant minutes know how to win and know how to put together that effort we need to finish out the season strong until KD gets back and we get our full squad. Can’t forget who we are and even though it’s a different journey this season we can’t lose that confidence,” Steph further said.
A confident Warriors squad has been hard to stop in recent seasons, including a recent stretch when it had won five times in a row. The five-game winning streak is nothing special compared to what it had achieved the last two seasons.
However, the streak was coming off a three-game losing skid. And it happened when they started to miss Durant, who is still out due to a knee injury.
Golden State responding is a sign of things to come for the rest of the Warriors’ campaign this regular season and the NBA Playoffs. The Warriors (57-14) are ahead by two and a half games over West rivals San Antonio Spurs (54-16). The race for the top spot is still up in the air but the recent Warriors’ winning streak sends a message to the Spurs and the rest of the NBA that it is still the team to beat this current season.
The Warriors next game is an easy one as well as they face the Sacramento Kings next. Then they will have a tough stretch where they will face the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Spurs.
The Warriors are putting the league back on notice reminding them that it has made the NBA championship round twice the last two seasons. Stephen Curry is confident that the team can continue to send that message and play well the rest of the regular season even without Kevin Durant.
