Episode 9 in season 2 of “The Strain” saw the onslaught of vampires in Red Hook after Eichorst (Richard Sammel), Kelly (Natalie Brown) and 20 strigois managed to enter the village. The series episode titled “The Battle of the Red Hook” also shows Kelly’s determination to reunite and turn her son Zach (Max Charles) into a strigoi.

Described by Cinema Blend as the second season’s “best episode yet,” “The Battle of the Red Hook” opens with Eichorst dealing with a ferry driver to take him, Kelly and 20 vampires across Red Hook in exchange for a lump sum of cash and a false promise of security from the strigois. The driver agrees, thinking his life will be spared after he takes them across.

The scene cuts to Kelly being comforted by one of her “feelers” after a failed attempt to get Zach from his father, Eph (Corey Stoll) in episode 8 titled “The Intruders.” Kelly confides with Eichorst her insecurities about Nora (Mia Maestro) acting as Zach’s mother, to which Eichorst tells her, “She is insignificant. She is nothing, we will show her that in due time.” Then he tells her his plan to cross Red Hook and says, “It is time for them to see our true power.”

Meanwhile, back in the group’s hideout, Eph, Nora, Setrakian (David Bradley) and Fet (Kevin Durand) agree to go out and warn Justine Ferraldo (Samantha Mathis) that Eichort’s team of vampires could likely strike the village. However, Eph, Setrakian and Zach were asked to leave after they warned Justine since their caution of a strigoi attack sounded too fictitious to be believable.

Eichorst, Kelly and the 20 vampires manage to cross to Red Hook, with Kelly going straight after Zach after she spots his location. The strigois managed to cut off the power supply, allowing for the hundreds or more vampires to cross the fenced entrance to Red Hook. Justine and her team came unprepared for the onslaught. Justine decides to seek help from the residents and they took to the streets armed with their weapons to defeat the strigois. Luckily, Nora and Fet managed to find the backup source for the power supply that turned the radiation lights back on killing the strigois instantly.

Kelly again remained defeated in her attempt to get Zach as she tries to take him away from Nora and Fet. Eph and Setrakian, on the other hand, try to kill Eichorst, but he was too quick for their bullets and managed to escape wounded.

“The Battle of the Red Hook” somehow teases humanity’s power over the strigois. However, Sammel said in a previous interview with Collider that the vampires will continue to make “progress on their plans to overtake humanity” in the coming seasons of “The Strain.”
