Talking about what fans should expect from Season 2 of “The Strain,” Kevin Durand teased what could be a major plot change in the show’s story. When asked by Collider during an exclusive phone interview about how the story is evolving in the new season, Durand expressed feeling scared about losing somebody.
“I feel like everything in the second season is just turned up, which might include that fear of losing your favorite character,” he said.
The actor did not offer further details to support his statement. In the original story from Guillermo del Toro, the vampire hunter Setrakian meets his untimely demise in the first book series. Whether the show will follow after the book’s storyline is however not guaranteed. “The Strain” writer and co-executive producer Chuck Hogan told Spoiler TV that Season 2 will contain a new storyline that is not found in the book.
“Now we can expand on [the book’s content] and either do some things we thought about doing but hadn’t, or just coming up with some new ideas,” he said. “We’re certainly using the books but we are absolutely open to changing things from the book,” Hogan added.
The likely chance of Setrakian, played by David Bradley, being killed in Season 2 of “The Strain” is slim. Executive producer Guillermo del Toro said during a previous interview with Collider that the character has a pivotal role to play as the series progresses, because of his history with The Master.
In Season 2 of “The Strain” Setrakian goes on a quest to discover the origin of The Master to better understand and develop an approach on how to vanquish him. He reportedly goes on a mythological and spiritual quest rather than physical, with the notion that the better he knows how The Master was created, the best chance he gets to finally kill him.
