“Supergirl” lead star Melissa Benoist has opened up about playing her role in the US television series. The actress has specifically talked about flying as Supergirl and admitted that it is not actually easy because the harness she has to utilise feels like an uncomfortable tight metal diaper.

In one of her latest interviews, the 28-year-old has acknowledged that her character, as well as Superman, is about truth, justice and the American way, and that it is rewarding to play the role. But she also got real, saying it is definitely the most difficult job she has ever done.

“It's not easy flying adding the harness sort of feels like an uncomfortable tight metal diaper,” Benoist said. She added that her role sets some really high standards to live up to and it has made her become a stronger and braver person than she ever was.

For Benoist, technique is key to be able to fly as Supergirl. She said everyone has their own techniques. “But that being said, you are up in the air and they are blowing this wind on you... it does let your imagination run wild and it's pretty exhilarating,” she told Huffington Post.

Although she may be having a hard time flying, the actress said she adores her suit. She said it feels like skin and sometimes she even forgets that she is actually wearing it.

Benoist has also opened up about her experience during the Women’s March, which she has been part of this month. The event promotes fight for human rights, civil liberties, and social justice for everyone and was joined by thousands of women, men and children who headed to Washington, DC.

She said her favourite point was the time they have reached the White House and there people. "A sea of people with the best energy,” she said on the same interview.

Earlier this month, the CW has announced that “Supergirl” is renewed for a third season. Other shows that have been renewed by the network are “Arrow” (season 6), “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (season 3), “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (season 3), “The Flash” (season 4), “Jane the Virgin” (season 4) and “Supernatural” (season 13).

“Supergirl” cast also includes Mehcad Brooks (Jimmy Olsen), Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers), Jeremy Jordan (Winslow "Winn" Schott), David Harewood (Hank Henshaw), Floriana Lima (Maggie Sawyer), and Chris Wood (Mon-El). The show airs in Australia on Fox8.
