'Supergirl' renewed, Peter Gadiot to appear as Mxyzptlk
The CW has announced that “Supergirl” is renewed for a third season. The girl of steel shows no signs of slowing down as she is bound to face another villain that will be played by actor Peter Gadiot.
TV Line has reported that Gadiot was picked for the role of Mxyzptlk. In the DC comics, the character is known as a reality-bending trickster from the Fifth Dimension. He is also fond of tormenting Superman.
Fans of the comics know that there is only one way to send Mxyzptlk home. That is to trick him into saying his name backwards. One of Mxyzptlk’s most formidable abilities is to manipulate the world around him. In the comics, Superman and Supergirl’s Kryptonian powers do not hurt him.
Gadiot is best known for his role in “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” as Cyrus. He was the genie Alice had fallen in love with. In the series, one of Alice’s greatest motivations was to find Cyrus while also dealing with the various CS Lewis characters like the Red Queen, The White Rabbit, and the White King.
Aside from “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” Gadiot has also appeared in television shows like “Matador” and “Tut and Queen of the South.” TV Line has mentioned that how his character will fit into Kara’s (Melissa Marie Benoist) world is yet to be revealed.
“Supergirl” also stars Mehcad Brooks (Jimmy Olsen), Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers), Jeremy Jordan (Winslow "Winn" Schott), David Harewood (Hank Henshaw), Floriana Lima (Maggie Sawyer), and Chris Wood (Mon-El). Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant), Ian Gomez (Snapper Carr), Katie McGrath (Lena Luthor) and Lynda Carter (Olivia Marsdin) are the recurring actors for the current season.
CW has also renewed six other TV series. There include “Arrow” (season 6), “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (season 3), “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (season 3), “The Flash” (season 4), “Jane the Virgin” (season 4), and “Supernatural” (season 13).
"Supergirl" returns to the small screens in the US on Jan. 23. The series is expected to air on FOX8 in Australia. Official air date for "Supergirl" season 2 episode 9 in Australia is yet to be confirmed.
