“Supergirl” season 2 is expected to put the friendship of Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) and Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) to test. Next week’s episode titled “Luthors” might see the connection between Kara and Lena declining, or their friendship might end up stronger if they will be able to make it through the challenges.

Lena has appeared in five episodes of the show and she has been Kara’s great friend since she has been part of “Supergirl” season 2. The two girls have remained good friends even if Kara’s mother disapproves of her friendship with Lena.

When Lena's mom had escaped from prison this week, all proof has pointed to Lena’s involvement in the breakout. But Kara believes that her friend is not a bad person. In an interview, Benoist has shared why her character trusts Lena.

The “Supergirl” lead star has explained that her character is at odds with basically everyone she knows. Benoist has shared that she appreciates how Kara has given Lena the benefit of the doubt. She trusts her despite the fact that she is a Luthor and it is hard to trust someone from her environment.

The actress has recognised that Lena has proven herself more than once that she wants to make the world a better place. It seems that Lena is one who would never want to follow her family’s trail. One proof is when she has testified against her mother in court.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Luthors, the family is known as fictional super villains from the DC Comics. Lena’s brother, Alexander Joseph "Lex" Luthor, is popular as the archenemy of Superman. Some people would often associate Lena’s family name with Lex, which is one of the reasons that she is usually overlooked.

As more tests in Lena’s friendship with Kara come, it will be interesting to see how the former will prove that she deserves her trust and that of others. There is also a chance that she will grow tired of the accusations that come with her surname and will only end up being like her brother.

Some “Supergirl” season 2 viewers still doubt that Lena is deserving of Kara’s trust. “It’s a smart story point to constantly keep people guessing about Lena, what her motives are and what she really wants,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “Supergirl” season 2 airs in Australia every Tuesday at 9:10 a.m. on Fox8.
