'Supernatural' Season 9 Episode 14 'Captives' Recap/Spoilers: Another Heartbreaking Episode with Kevin Tran
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) are finally back from the short break due to the Olympics in "Supernatural" Season 9 with Episode 14 titled "Captives." In this episode, the hunters deal with the ghost of a person that they considered to be family.
Spoiler alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "Supernatural" Season 9, Episode 14 titled "Captives." The episode kicks off in the "Men of Letters" bunker with flickering lights and creepy sounds.
"Bunker's haunted," Dean stated after he and his brother noticed the signs. The hunter brothers discussed how the bunker can be haunted when it is supposed to be the "safest place" for them to stay. The ghost that they initially speculated to be haunting them is Bobby (Jim Beaver) but the two suddenly realized Kevin (Oscric Chau) appears to be the more appropriate one with his recent death.
Convinced that Kevin is the ghost haunting the bunker, Dean talked to him, took the blame for his death under his watch and asked for an apology. Kevin finally shows up and asks Sam and Dean for a big favor. "Find my mother," Kevin tells the Winchesters.
Castiel (Misha Collins) is looking for Metatron (Curtis Armstrong) but he ends up in the hands of Bartholomew (Adam Harrington). During their discussion, Bartholomew claimed he wants the same thing that Castiel wants which is finding Metatron and offers an alliance believing together they can take down Metatron.
Dean has been contacting Crowley (Mark Sheppard) but his voice mail is already the third one unanswered making Sam quip that maybe the King of Hell is just not that into Dean. However, Dean pointed out to Sam that Crowley is their last confirmed link to Linda Tran (Lauren Tom), Kevin's mom.
It turns out Linda is still alive and being held captive in a storage room, thanks to a ghost named Candy who helped the Winchester brothers in tracking her down. Sam and Dean were able to locate the place and as Sam tried to help Linda Tran escape, Del, the guy that works at the storage place locked him up.
While Linda and Sam tried to open the storage's metal door, Linda hoped that the Winchesters did not bring along his son in this rescue mission and Kevin is in a safe place. Sam had no choice but to inform Linda with a heavy heart about what happened to Kevin.
As Bartholomew showed Castiel the work he has been doing and how he is doing it, Castiel finally made the decision of refusing to work with the fallen angel. The two got engaged in a physical confrontation and Castiel walked victoriously away after killing Bartholomew with the angel sword. What Castiel did has earned the trust of some angels who revealed they are willing to be Castiel's followers.
The tables have turned for Del when Sam, who successfully escaped with Linda's help, entered the room where he tied up Dean. Sam and Dean gave Linda Tran the knife to kill the demon who was been working for Crowley. "Take me to my son," Linda stated afterwards.
The ending scene showed the tearful reunion of Kevin and his mom at the bunker. Before leaving, Kevin told Sam and Dean that they should stop all of the drama and the fighting because "It's stupid" as he stated in the episode. However, Sam walked away leaving Dean by himself indicating that he did not really meant making the promise to Kevin about getting over their issues.
"Supernatural" Season 9 returns with the Ghostfacers in the next episode titled "#THINMAN" on Tuesday night, March 4, at 8 pm central time on the CW Network.
