Taya Kyle, 40-year-old widow of real life “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, has said that her late husband would have been “in awe” of the success of the war film. She also revealed that her husband was not used to “being in the forefront” and even felt nervous when he was asked to sign on the copies of his autobiography “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.”

Taya is the widow of Chris, on whose life the hugely successful film “American Sniper” is based. Chris was aware that a film on his life is being made by Clint Eastwood. The Navy SEAL was fatally shot by war veteran Eddie Ray Routh. Chris could not see the film but his wife told People magazine in an exclusive interview that he would have loved its success and would “just be in awe of it.” The film has earned more than USD 200 million at the Hollywood box office.

“It makes me really emotional when I think about how he would react,” Taya said to People. She said that Chris was a “humble” guy who did not like being in the limelight. She also said that Chris was almost “uncomfortable” with all the attention and got used to it slightly when his book was released.

Taya told the magazine that Chris would have however felt “honoured and blessed” by the response of the war veterans, as he wanted to find a way to serve the soldiers without being at the war front. The Iraq war hero was shot at and killed on Feb. 2, 2013 at a shooting range in Texas. Chris' friend Chad Littlefield, who was with him, was also killed.

Routh was reportedly suffering from post-war depression and was allegedly not in a healthy state of mind when he shot Chris and Littlefield. Routh's mom requested Chris to help Routh get over his war blues by taking him to a shooting range. The veteran is scheduled to stand trial for the case on Feb. 11, 2015.
