Taylor Swift Criticizes Apple Music Plus ‘1989’ At Billboard 200’s Number 2 Spot
Taylor Swift has recently written an open letter criticizing Apple Music’s decision to not pay royalties to artists, writers and producers during its free three-month trial period, which led the “Bad Blood” singer to hold back her “1989” album from the new streaming service.
In the open letter published on her Tumblr page, Swift explained that Apple Music’s decision deserves an explanation because the new streaming service has been and will continue to be one of her best partners in selling music and creating ways for her to connect with her fans.
On the other hand, Swift complained saying not paying artists, writers and producers during the free-trial period is “shocking” and “disappointing” considering that Apple is a “historically progressive and generous company.”
Swift made it clear that her complaints are not about her. She said that she is fortunate enough to be on her fifth album “1989” and can support herself, her band, crew and management team so she is speaking on behalf of other artists and producers who will be negatively affected by Apple Music’s refusal to pay royalties for three months.
It appears that Swift is still hoping that Apple Music changes its policy. She ended her open letter with an appeal saying, “We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.”
Currently, Swift’s fifth studio album “1989” is at number two of the Billboard 200 chart, which is currently dominated by the English rock band Muse’s seventh studio album “Drones.” At number three is Of Monsters And Men’s “Beneath The Skin” followed by Florence and the Machine’s “How Big How Blue How Beautiful” and The Rolling Stones’ “Sticky Fingers” at numbers four and five, respectively.
Released through Big Machine Records on Oct. 27, 2014, “1989” is a pop album that has 13 tracks including “Welcome to New York,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “Out of the Woods,” “All You Had To Do Was Stay,” “Shake It Off,” “I Wish You Would” and her recent collaboration song with Kendrick Lamar “Bad Blood,” which was reportedly about Swift’s feud with Katy Perry.
