Taylor Swift Reveals Mom Andrea Has Cancer
Taylor Swift has revealed in a Tumblr post on April 9, that her mother Andrea Finlay, 57, has been diagnosed with cancer. Her family is keeping the specifics of her mother's condition private, but the singer writes that her mom wanted the fans know about her diagnosis.
"For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine." The 25-year-old wrote on Tumblr. The singer also added that this was something her family and she would like to share with her fans. You can read the full post here.
Swift’s mom has been instrumental in supporting her daughter every step of the way during her rise to super stardom. Andrea has been featured in Taylor’s “The Best Day” and “I’m Only Me When I’m With You” music videos. She was most recently heard capturing Taylor and brother Austin Swift’s Easter egg hunt.
According to a report in Tasteofcountry.com published in 2011, Swift had said that "The Best Day" was written for her mother. She had said that her mother was her only friend when she was 13 and that her mom was an "escape in a lot of ways." (Watch "The Best Day" video below.)
Social media was flooded with messages from fans sympathizing with the seven-time Grammy winner. In the post, Taylor urges her fans to remind their parents to get screened for cancer. Swift also said that she hoped and prayed that her fans never face the same situation.
The "Blank Space" singer wrote on Tumblr that her mother wanted the fans to know she might not be in many shows this tour. She finished it by saying that her mother had an "important battle to fight."
The news comes just days after she received the most nominations for the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. Swift is currently preparing for her 2015 tour in support of her first official pop album "1989." The first show is set for Tokyo on May 5.
