Taylor Swift talks girl squad, reveals it was hard to make friends while growing up
Growing up under the limelight can be very stressful for someone as young as Taylor Swift. In an interview with GQ for the magazine’s November cover story, the singer revealed how she had a hard time making friends.
Swift’s November GQ cover photoshoot showed a different side of the singer, where Swift posed sexily on the beach. The multi-award winning artist even recounted interesting details about her life and explained why she has so many female friends now. The “Bad Blood” singer told the magazine that she values the friendship she formed with her female girl pals, which includes Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid and many more. Swift also admitted that it was hard for her to make friends when she was younger.
“I honestly think my lack of female friendships in high school and middle school is why my female friendships are so important now,” she said. “Because I always wanted them. It was just hard for me to have friends.”
Swift also relayed a painful experience she had during middle school, when she invited a group of girls for a shopping trip at the mall. The girls turned her down, said Swift, however she and her mom later saw them having fun at Victoria’s Secret store. This prompted her mom to take the singer to a different mall, she recalled.
“My mom let me escape from certain things that were too painful to deal with,” she said. “And we talked about it the whole ride there, and we had a good time shopping.”
However, Calvin Harris’ girlfriend is surrounded by numerous friends these days. When asked whether Swift experiences moments of loneliness, she explained to GQ that she doesn’t feel lonely given the massive amount of “social stimulation” that she goes through. Even when she’s at home, she shares how the TV series “Friends” keep her company.
“When I get home, there is not one part of me that wishes I was around other people," Swift added.
Meanwhile, the “Shake It Off” singer has the most number of nominations for this year’s American Music Awards, Billboard reported. Swift scored six nominations including artist of the year and favourite pop/rock album for “1989.”
The 2015 American Music Awards will be held on Nov. 22 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
