Taylor Swift on verge of making history at American Music Awards
The 2015 American Music Awards (AMAs) announced its nominations on Tuesday, and yet again Taylor Swift has topped the list.
Swift scored six AMAs nominations, including for artist of the year, song of the year for “Black Space” and favourite album of the year for her most celebrated album “1989,” The Hollywood Reporter reported.
So far Swift has 16 career AMAs to her name. If she wins in all the six nominated categories this year, she will surpass Whitney Houston as AMAs' most decorated artist.
Following Swift in the nomination list are The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran, with five nomination each. These two are competing with Swift to take home the best artist of the year trophy.
The other contenders for the best artist of the year category are Luke Bryan, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Sam Smith and Meghan Trainor.
After artist of the year category, song of the year is considered the most popular category. In this category, Swift is facing a tough competition, as she will have to beat Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's “See you Again” from the film “Furious 7” to grab the trophy. Other than “See you again,” The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” and Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” are also being considered strong contenders.
The winners are decided based on fans’ votes, and the voting opened on Tuesday at AMAvote.com.
The show airs Nov. 22 on ABC in the U.S.. Jennifer Lopez will be hosting this year's AMAs.
