Thieves have broken into the Red Cross blood bank in Melbourne between Sunday night and Monday morning. However, they did not take any blood supply or cash, only two plasma TV sets worth $1,000, a camera and a mobile phone.

Police said the robbers entered between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. by smashing windows of the Red Cross office located in Charter Street, Ringwood.

The Red Cross canceled about 100 morning appointments for blood donations and is contacting all of them. The Red Cross said it hopes to resume normal operations by Monday afternoon.

"We're definitely dismayed.... For someone to break into the blood service knowing that we provide the product that saves lives each day for thousands of Australians is disappointing," Red Cross Blood Service spokesman Shaun Inguanza told Theage.com.au.

"The donors have also given up each an hour of their time to come in and save up to three lives with each donation, so we're really dismayed that anyone would want to break into the blood service," he added.

It was the first break in to hit the Ringwood centre which has been open for 10 years.
