"Tomorrowland," which is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, has just been released in Australian theatres on Thursday. It was shown in New Zealand on May 21, 2015 and in the U.S., Canada and UK on May 22, 2015. The film stars George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, Tim McGraw, Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Robinson, Kathryn Hahn and Raffey Cassidy. Here is the "Tomorrowland" movie review including the best and worst moments of the film.
"Tomorrowland" was written by Brad Bird, Jeff Jensen and Damon Lindelof. It was directed by Brad Bird. Bird also produced the movie, along with Lindelof and Jeffrey Chernov. Its running time is 130 minutes.
Its main plot is about a futuristic city called “Tomorrowland” and a bunch of robots, including one named Athena (Cassidy). Frank Walker (Robinson/Clooney) was able to go there back when he was a kid in 1964. He met Athena who introduced him to “Tomorrowland.”
When Walker grew up, he turned into a brilliant inventor. Casey Newton (Robertson), a science nerd, was destined to cross paths with him. Athena was their link to each other. When Walker and Newton finally met, they got chased by other robots who pretended to be U.S. Secret Service agents. They narrowly escaped the robots. Frank had no choice but to blow up his house to save himself and Casey.
Eventually, they find themselves reunited with Athena and they were able to go to “Tomorrowland” using Frank’s teleportation machine and a rocket inside the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
They discovered that the place is not what it used to be before. Governor Nix (Laurie) gave Casey a chance to see the future. But she saw worldwide destruction. However, Casey doesn’t believe that the world will actually end, that’s why the future changed.
Unfortunately, Athena got damaged while trying to save Frank from getting shot by Nix with a plasma gun. Athena couldn’t be repaired anymore and she will self-destruct soon. Before self-destructing, she replayed a recording of Frank and her. Then, Frank dropped Athena into the machine and it exploded. The explosion killed Nix.
The last part of the movie shows Frank and Casey making new "Tomorrowland" pins to enable dreamers like them to enter "Tomorrowland" again.
The film was fun to watch. It felt like being in an amusement ride. It is after all, named after the themed land in Disney’s famous parks. It was interesting to see all the futuristic inventions and gadgets in the movie. Robertson and Clooney work well together.
