Charlie Hunnam’s exit from E.L. James film, Fifty Shades of Grey, has taken the Internet by storm. Not only is his career in jeopardy, but critics also foresee disaster on the future of the film. Considerations have been made on the big backlash that Charlie’s exit could have in his very promising career.

But the Pacific Rim star is not the only big star in Hollywood who had turned down a huge role such as Christian Grey for Fifty Shades ofGrey.

Some have regretted their decisions to step back, while others stand down and remain steadfast in their move to look the other way for the role that could have brought their careers to immense success like no other.

The top celebrities who wished they hadn’t turned down huge roles are:
1. Charlie Hunnam - Christian Grey for Fifty Shades of Grey
Charlie’s exit from the film is by far one of the most talked about as it came after months of search of the lead character. But the film remains to be in search for Christian Grey. The joint statement from the filmmakers and the English hunk noted that his busy schedule for the TV series he is currently working on is the main reason The Dead Fall star opted out of the controversial film.

“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey,” the statement said.

The film has yet to name the new Christian.

2. Julia Roberts – The Proposal, The Blind Side
Julia Roberts could have won her second Oscars had she decided to keep the role that landed on Sandra Bullock - - Leanne Tuohy on The Blind Side.

But the biopic drama is not the only film Julia dropped out on that was later given to Bullock. Jesse James’s ex-wife also nabbed the lead role for The Proposal where she played opposite Ryan Reynolds. The role could have been perfect for Julia who has proven her knack on romantic comedy films such as Notting Hill, Runaway Bride, and Pretty Woman, among others. The Proposal has not been as memorable for Sandra as The Blind Side, but the rom-com did well on the box office.

3. Mark Wahlberg - Brokeback Mountain
Mark Wahlberg was the first in mind in Ang Lee when the multi-awarded director thought of making the critically acclaimed film, Brokeback Mountain.

But it scared Wahlberg and admitted it may not be the one project for him.

"I met with Ang Lee on that movie, I read 15 pages of the script and got a little creeped out. It was very graphic, descriptive - the spitting on the hand, getting ready to do the thing. I told Ang Lee, 'I like you, you're a talented guy, if you want to talk about it more...' Thankfully, he didn't...I didn't rush to see Brokeback, it's just not my deal... Obviously, it was done in taste - look how it was received," Mark said as he recalled reading the script.

Having done Boogie Nights, Wahlberg may have done what he thought was really best.

Jake Gyllenhall got the role and he did great, noted the Four Brothers star.

4. Tom Hanks – Jerry Maguire
Tom Hanks thought he sure didn’t need anyone “to show him the money” when he turned down the role in box office hit, Jerry Maguire.”

The Philadelphia actor explained however, that he was just busy directing another project, That Thing You Do, that he had to pass up the role.

The sports film could have been a familiar territory for Tom Hanks after his excellent performance on A League of Their Own with Geena Davis, among others.

But Tom Cruise did justice for the role in the end.

5. Will Smith – The Matrix
Can you imagine Will Smith doing The Matrix? The After Earth star sure could not see himself in the role, and he things that Keanu Reeves is the perfect man for the role.

Will Smith: "I watched Keanu's performance - and very rarely do I say this - but I would have messed it up. "At that point I wasn't smart enough as an actor to let the movie be. Whereas Keanu was smart enough to just let it be."

6. Michelle Pfeiffer - Pretty Woman
Michelle Pfeiffer may have had a good roster of films in her resume, but most may agree that she has never reached the kind of success Julia Roberts has in many years of her acting career in Hollywood.

No one could have done better than Michelle as Catwoman, but would she have been able to pull off an innocent young American woman who tried to prostitute her way to college?

Michelle was concerned about the main plot and story line of the film created in the eighties. But not Julia. The Notting Hill star must continue to pat herself on the back for making the decision that made her career. Julia Roberts propelled to stardom after starring on Pretty Woman, playing opposite Richard Gere. And her film has become a prototype of films created to date. Films going in the lines of fairy tales like Maid in Manhattan to Nanny Diaries have never failed to touch the hearts of America and the world.

7. Anne Hathaway – Silver Linings Playbook
Had Anne Hathaway found more time to squeeze in filming for Silver Linings Playbook, and she could have wowed us with her dancing skills. We know she can sing but the role would have allowed her to dance her way to the Oscars in the early part of 2013.

But due to busy schedule, Hathaway turned down the role that gave Jennifer Lawrence her first Oscars - - the trophy that may change her life forever.

And we would have missed out on Jennifer tripping on The Oscars stage - - considered one of the top highlights of the Academy Awards this year.

All is well that ends well. Both Anne and Jennifer nabbed their Oscars - - Anne for her role in Les Miserables and Jennifer, for Silver Lining Playbook.

8. Al Pacino - The Star Wars
Would the Star Wars end after three sequels if it was Al Pacino. George Lucas apparently had the Italian actor on top of his list when he decided to direct the film. There were not many rants on why Al Pacino turned down the role, but Harrison Ford welcomed the role with open arms. And with news that filmmakers are cooking up its final star wars and still with Ford as the lead star, the Air Force One actor must be doing the right job.

9. Christian Bale - Titanic
Christian Bale is perfect for The Fighter, American Psycho and Batman franchise, but would he have pulled off Jack in the Titanic?

Jack is a young, reckless and free-spirited young American artist, and it has made Leonardo DiCaprio one of the greatest actors of his generation. But would Christian Bale have been able to dance his way at the luxurious ship called the Titanic?

Think again.
