'Top Gun: Maverick': Val Kilmer on the 'thrill' of being back
Val Kilmer will be reprising his role as the fighter pilot Ice Man in “Top Gun: Maverick.” In a recent interview, the actor spoke about what it was like to be back. Meanwhile, the final round of casting for the movie is complete, and seven new names have been announced for the film.
“Top Gun” sequel will continue the story form the 1986 movie. In an interview with Variety, Kilmer said that he is making the upcoming film with the same “economy and joy” with which they made the first one.
“We’ve had so much fun acting together again after all these years. Boy, what a thrill,” Kilmer said. In the wide ranging interview, the actor also spoke about some of the other projects that he has been a part of, and his acting career in general.
Meanwhile, another set of actors have joined the film. According to Deadline, the seven actors who have joined the film are Kara Wang, Jack Schumacher, Greg Tarzan Davis, Jake Picking, Raymond Lee, Jean Louisa Kelly, and Lyliana Wray.
Wang has been a part of “Good Trouble” series. She will be playing a fighter pilot in the film. Schumacher, who has worked in “Empire” and “Chicago P.D.” TV series, will also be playing a pilot in the upcoming movie.
Davis has been a part of “Chicago P.D.,” Picking was in “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” Lee was in “Mozart in the Jungle,” Kelly was in “Ant-Man,” and Wray was in “Strange Angel.”
The other cast members of the film include Tom Cruise (Maverick), Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Monica Barbaro, Manny Jacinto, and Thomasin McKenzie.
Filming of “Top Gun: Maverick” has already begun. Joseph Kosinski is directing. The film is set to be released on June. 26, 2020 in the US. The producers are yet to announce a release date for Australia.
