The release of the Toshiba Protege Z835 is part of Intel's new category for "thin-and-light" laptops. It joins the ranks of Acer Aspire S3, Asus Zenbook UX31, Lenovo Ideapad U300, and other Ultrabooks that challenges Apple's MacBook Air dominance in the market. The Toshiba Protégé Z835 is the fourth Ultrabook this season and it offers a price that is considerably lower than the previous Ultrabooks released. The Toshiba Portege Z835 is priced below the US$1,000 benchmark for Ultrabooks which makes it the least expensive among all the Ultrabooks just released.

The Toshiba Portege Z835 is a 13-inch Ultrabook that comes in a graphite grey color. It has a dimension of 12.4 x 8.94 inches and has a thickness of 0.33 - 0.63. The width is measured at 3.6 inches and the height is at 1.8 inches. It weighs around 2.47 lbs. which makes it the lightest Ultrabook up to date. The Portege Z835 is made up of magnesium alloy casing which does not feel as "tough" when compared to others. Toshiba described the design as ""enhanced honeycomb rib design" with "beefed up internal structure" which helps in shock absorption. Display Type is 13.3 in TFT active matrix and its max resolution is 1366 x 768. It also contains an illuminated "Chiclet keyboard" as well as a 3.3 x 1.8-inch pad.

The Toshiba Portege Z835 has a processor of 1.4GHz Intel Core i3-2367M and RAM size of 4GB, 1333MHz DDR3. Hard Drive is 128GB SSD and Operating System used is Windows 7 Home Premium. For the networking function, it has Ethernet and 802.11n Wi-fi but has no optical drive.

If compared to other Ultrabooks that were recently launched, the Toshiba Portege Z835 Ultrabook is considerably less expensive than its competitors but Toshiba also trimmed a little bit of features in the Ultrabook in order to offer this price. Based on the review done by the Verge, the ultrabook's bad points would be its design and quality as well as its LCD screen and base configuration. Despite that, the good points mentioned were its light weight, backlit keyword, good battery life and the very competitive price tag.

The Toshiba Portege Z835 would be exclusively available at Best Buy in the U.S. with the selling price of US$899. No official news has been released yet regarding the availability of the Toshiba Portege Z835 Ultrabook in Australia and other countries.
