Transfer News: Manchester United still chasing Gareth Bale
Manchester United is still chasing Gareth Bale hoping to get him from Real Madrid as the transfer window for this year is closing.
According to ESPN, Manchester United’s pursuit of Bale is still on the table and the club believes they have the leverage in any possible deal. However, Real Madrid is said not to be interested in selling the Welsh pro, who according to a separate report is set to be offered a £95 million (AU$ 206.3 million) bid.
Bale struggled last season for Real Madrid scoring 17 goals in 48 appearances but has been targeted by Manchester United the last two seasons. For his entire club career, Bale has 99 goals in 341 matches.
Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez is reportedly not willing to go of Bale at this time because the 26-year-old Welsh winger is still part of the team’s long-term plans.
Bale, who is from Cardiff, Wales, has played for Southampton from 2006 to 2007 and Tottenham Hotspur from 2007 to 2013 before joining Real Madrid in 2013 for an estimated fee of £77 million to £85.3 million (AU$ 167.2 million to AU$ 184.6 million).
Bale has also represented the Wales soccer national team playing for the youth teams from 2005 to 2008 and has been named to the senior squad since 2006 playing in 50 matches and producing 17 goals.
Aside from Bale, Manchester United is reportedly chasing German Thomas Muller as well. Muller is currently with Bayern Munich.
