In a showcase of life imitating art, or an Aesop fable, a turtle won in a race against a rabbit during a ski competition in northern China.
Ani News reported on Wednesday the story with a twist since it also involved 40 people who placed their pets on skis or sleds or guided the animals with a lead while skiing toward the finish line.
The report said that while the hare loves to jump, it didn't follow its owner's commands, while the tortoise rode on its owner's ski and won over the rabbit by finishing third.
Other animals that joined in the race held in Hebei province were a yellow duck, a dog and a rooster. First place winner was the yellow duck that wore a red necktie.
Skiing, a sport more popular with western countries in North America and Europe, is gaining more followers in China, which is bidding to host the Winter Olympics in 2022. Beijing hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics.
