UFC News: Ronda Rousey Travelling To Rio de Janeiro To Conquer Bethe Correia
Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC, reigning women’s bantamweight champion recently envisioned a “Rocky IV” scenario in terms of a potential match with self-proclaimed conqueror of the “Four Horsewomen,” Bethe Corriea. The undefeated champion will be living the fantasy as she is set to defend her title in the Brazilian’s home city in Rio de Janeiro for a match tentatively scheduled for Aug. 1.
“I want to go and fight her in Brazil and beat her in her hometown. That would be the best way I could really feel like I've vindicated my friends, to go to her hometown and beat her in her hometown and be total Rocky IV on it," Rousey recently told Jay Mohr on his sports talk show (via MMA Fighting) on the prospect of the bout taking palce in Correia’s home country.
Rousey and Correia will be headlining UFC 190 in a pay-per-view event that is expected to attract tens of thousands at the HSBC Arena in the country’s capital. Joining them in the preliminary fights are Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, a hometown darling himself, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira who will be up against each other in the light heavyweight starrer. Rua is trying to redeem his UFC career after two straight losses including a humbling defeat in the hands of up and coming fighter Ovince St. Preux last year.
“Rousey” and UFC President Dana White have agreed for some time off from the Octagon given that the actress is set to film her next Hollywood vehicle, “Mile 2,” a gritty action picture which will be helmed by Peter Berg. Aside from the said movie commitment, Rousey is also taking part in the promotion of her other upcoming films, “Fast 7” and ”Entourage: The Movie.”
Despite the tight schedule, the undefeated fighter has been game on taking on all challengers including Correia whom she has a bit of personal connection. “Pitbull” has been lately talking trash about Rousey and even labelled her as a ”selfish champion” for trying to use her mixed martial arts popularity to transition into film making. Rousey is also hell-bent on avenging her teammates Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler, who both fell to the 31-year-old Brazilian.
