UFC's Conor McGregor Says He 'Would Certainly Dismantle' Floyd Mayweather
UFC featherweight contender Conor McGregor would gladly fight boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr if given the chance to do so. The UFC fighter appeared as guest in the Conan O’Brien’s show on Thursday night saying that he “would certainly dismantle” the undefeated future hall of famer.
The Irish bad boy knew it was impossible to get the richest boxer to convert to MMA fighting style, so he would go over to Mayweather’s sport instead. Before the show’s interview with McGregor ended, facing “The Money” was brought up as both of the fighters dwell in the same weight class. The UFC fighter wasted no time saying he would gladly face Mayweather as soon as the topic was raised.
“If you’re asking would I like to fight Floyd Mayweather — I mean, who would not like to dance around the ring for $180 million? I certainly know he would not want to step into my world. The world of pure unarmed combat where there’s no limitations, but I most certainly would step into his world. I would certainly box him if the opportunity arose. Most certainly,” McGregor said as per NESN.com.
The outspoken Irish fighter believes there is no real fight left for Mayweather after winning the mega fight in May against Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao. McGregor added that for a fight to draw interest from fans, “it must be a cross and match up different styles.” Despite of Mayweather’s undefeated legacy , McGregor pointed out that there are still plenty of weakness left to exploit in the boxer’s fighting style.
“I’ve said it before, I don’t think boxing is the style of fighting that can beat Floyd but saying that there are many, many forms of fighting that can beat him. If we were to get it on, I would most certainly dismantle him,” McGregor added via News.com.au.
McGregor will face Chad Mendes on July 11 for the interim featherweight title at UFC 189 in Las Vegas.
