Uninvited 'Star Wars' Fans E-mailed by Bioware Asking About 'The Old Republic' MMO
The only thing that could be worse than being not invited to a party is receiving a letter asking how it feels not to be invited.
That is what fans of "Star Wars" felt when Bioware mistakenly e-mailed everyone who applied for beta testing for the online game "Star Wars: The Old Republic" who didn't make the cut.
Fans flooded Bioware's forum looking for their "misplaced" invitation or asking for one. The traffic of fans caused the whole Web site to stop working. The thread on the forum asking about the e-mail and speculating that their invitation was caught in a spam filter quickly reached 47 pages. Many have raised their hopes that they have suddenly got into the closed beta testing of Star Wars: The Old Republic only to be dashed as they press F5 furiously to see the invitation that will never come.
"Earlier today, two e-mails were sent to members of the Star Wars: The Old Republic community. These e-mails were sent to a larger group than intended, and have caused some confusion in the community." a release from Bioware explaining the mix-up said in their forum. They later tried to appease the fans by insinuating that receiving the emails will not affect their chance in getting in the beta testing of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role playing game from Bioware. Currently the only way to play the game is through beta testing which is an invitation only game. It is set in the Star Wars universe 300 years after the events of the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Players can play a range of species and class. The last Star Wars MMORPG was Star Wars Galaxies and are currently will be closed in Dec. 15 this year.
The Star Wars franchise lately have been teasing fans with unneeded modifications by George Lucas in the films up to this recent mistake from Bioware. It is currently unknown how Bioware will make-up for this mistake. Most probably they will do nothing but many hope that they will feel really really bad.
